Cassette Release & Listening Party 🔊👂 (plus other bits to share) 🍃🌊
Today was the first day this year that I ate my lunch outside. The sun felt so bright in my eyes and warm on my skin, I feel excited for the coming months: starting my garden, going to the river with friends, going on long walks with a camera until it gets dark.
I’m gearing up for an album release for “i looked in a mirror (and saw a light),” my second album under the name mattheuu. Come to the cassette release and listening party, the day it comes out Wednesday, March 5th, 6-8pm at Maps Good Space. We will have pu-erh tea and candles lighting the space.
The cassettes (edition of 25 only) will be available at this listening party, and if there are extras after that I’ll make sure to put them online.
The album will be available for streaming on Wednesday, March 5th, on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and all of the other ones too.
Here’s one song that’ll be on the album if you want a little more of a preview, it’s called hand gesture:
Another bit of news is that I’ll be doing an artist residency at Sou’wester near Seaside, Washington, in about a week or so. I’m so excited to walk around all day and collect field recordings, draw, and see what the week holds. My hope is to write a new project.
At the end of the residency, I will be performing the sounds that I put together.
This performance will be at the Sou’wester “Lodge Living Room” on Saturday 3/15/25 at 9pm. I’ll also have an installation going throughout the day, that will be available for public viewing all day that same day.
I hope to have some form of visual art to accompany the sounds, but I am unsure yet what that will be, I’m excited to move slow and let my mind wander without distraction.
Lastly, the reason why I am putting “i looked in a mirror (and saw a light)” out now is because I really wanted to finish it before the winter was over. March 5th feels like the perfect time, as things start warming up a bit. All of these sounds have a memory associated with them, and the album altogether feels like a time capsule starting from late summer 2024 to now. It’s going to be short, 19 minutes, but it is an introspective album that starts in a state of deep winter reflection, slowly easing out into the warmth of spring.
Thanks for reading ❤️ Would love to stay in touch, send me a message.
Best, Matthew
